Today we interviewed Rachel Rozario. An artist who makes powerful abstract paintings and who isn't afraid to leave a mark. In this blog we will dive a bit deeper into her world of art.

 

Where are you from?

From Sabah, North Borneo and living in Luxembourg

What do you love to paint?

I gravitate towards Flora and Fauna but I’m emotional and fickle. Thus, if one day I’m interested in chairs, I might just paint them.

Have you always been a painter?

I started as a Machine-Free Tattoo Artist and made the transition to painting.

What do you love most about your job?

Freedom

Are you able to make a living of it?

I have three modes of income: teaching Art and Drama, tattooing and selling my artworks.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years?

Own a guesthouse, Art/tattoo studio, solo exhibition, reaching out to more galleries

In what kind of space would you love to hang your art?

Boutique hotels, quirky and one of a kind business places and misfits.

What inspires you?

Movement. Be it road-tripping through the midnight sun or trekking on snow-capped mountains.

What artists do you admire?

Jean-Michel Basquiat, Terry Urban

What would your dream studio look like?

A warehouse

What has been your coolest project so far?

My painting was selected as part of a Sabah, North Borneo Women's 13th Exhibition 2022 at the National Art Gallery. And the painting was sold within three days.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We are tellers of a unique tale, yet all our stories are woven together into one storybook.
