Today we interviewed Tanya Aubut. An artist who makes bold but elegant portraits with a graffiti kind of feeling. In this blog we will dive a bit deeper into her world of art.
Where are you from?
I'm from Quebec, Canada.
What do you love to paint?
I love to paint edgy, street art portrait.
Have you always been a painter?
I've always been a painter, at first it was more like a hobby and i was trying everything like resin artworks, inks etc.. Then with the mastery program it became more serious and I'm now able to say I'm a professional artist.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being free mostly. Having all my time to work on my painting, finding new ideas. I also love connecting with the art community and being part of it. Being an artist is definitely not easy but it's so rewarding in the end when you realize your goals.
Are you able to make a living of it?
Yes I've been a professional and full time artist since 2021. I've been able to quit my job at the end of the Mastery Program.
What do you hope to achieve in 5 years?
I hope that I will still be creating things that inspires others, and that it empowers them as much as me. I am dreaming of having my nice big studio open for collectors to come and visit me too! And also another goal would be to participate in one of those big art fair in New York or Toronto for example☺️
In what kind of space would you love to hang your art?
In any collectors home that feels inspired by my art of course! And I have the chance that my art is already in 4 galleries across Canada, where I love seeing my art on their beautiful wall. Other than that I think the future will surprise me!
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by beauty, colors and music a lot. I often find the title of my paintings in song lyrics, or poems that I love. I'm constantly looking for new things and what would make my work stand out even more. Street and pop art are also a big influence for me, as well as graffiti art, I love the expression of these type of art.
What artists do you admire?
I really love Sophie Tea, Raphael Vicenzi, Gabriel Moreno, Laurent Dorchin, PichiAvo All these artists inspired me with their style yes, but also their work ethic and how prolific they are.
How do you get in touch with your collectors?
Via social media, or when I do exhibitions or when I go to the galleries where you can find my work! I don't do a lot of market, so the galleries are really where my collectors can come and connect with me in person.
What would your dream studio look like?
LOTS of windows and light!!! Lots of space!!! hahah. I would love to have my own studio/gallery one day that's for sure. I would love to do workshops there and have people that can stop by to come and look at the art while I'm painting! It would be so cool.
What has been your coolest project so far?
Oh that's a tough one. I've recently experienced my first solo show! So it was a really amazing moment for sure! I would say that my coolest project so far has been all the journey I'm going through to make it as an artist! It's so exciting and it's full of surprises, I love how my business is growing and how I'm learning so much through it all. This is definitely the coolest projects I've work on in all my life; realizing my dream!!!!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
To anyone that has this little sparkle in you, listen to it! If you have a dream and you feel like this “would be too big for you” It's not! You can do it! You can change your life completely if you choose to. This is what I did. I was feeling so unhappy and miserable when working at my previous day job at the grocery store, I thought this was my destiny, but it wasn't! Once I allowed myself to think big and that I allowed myself to prioritize MY dreams and what I really wanted, then it all switch. Never give up on your dreams!🩷
