To me, the barn owl embodies quiet wisdom and grace. Painting this piece, I felt myself stepping into that peaceful space between the waking world and a dream which is what I hope translates to the viewer. Rather than rendering literal stars, I used 23k gold leaf to honor the theme of a 'Moonlight Mirage.' Gold doesn't just sit on the canvas, it shifts and breathes with the ambient light in the room, mirroring how a desert mirage flickers and plays with perception. It felt like the only material capable of capturing that alchemical spark between shadow and dream. Gold makes its way into most of my painting eventually.
