Mixed Media with Oil, Gallery Wrapped Canvas
A circle canvas with a tan background, multicolored inks creating splashes of color all throughout the background. To the left is a botanical drawing of Dalmatian Peach Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), carefully stained with inks and paint to give it form and color. To the right is the Madagascan sunset moth (Chrysiridia rhipheus), a gorgeous moth with an underside that looks almost like a rainbow.
Inspiration
I was researching moths and beetles, looking for the unusual but beautiful, and came across this amazing moth. While the top of it is also beautiful (mostly green and orange) the underside of these moths really does look like a vibrant rainbow in the right light! These insects are also only naturally found in Madagascar.
