Let's meet Susan Eatmon

At Art Social Gallery we have many amazing unique artists, but who are they ? What inspires them and what can we learn from them?

Today we interviewed Susan Eaton. An artist who makes paintings with fascinating instruments. In this blog we will dive a bit deeper into her world of art.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Metro Detroit, Michigan. I moved to Florida when I was 21 and lived there for 11 years. Now I’m back in Metro Detroit.

What makes you unique?

What makes me unique? That’s a tough one! Well, I have a positive mindset and when I put my mind to something I stick with it. Especially if I’m passionate about it, like painting. Another passion of mine is learning the Italian language, which I started 6 months ago. It is so satisfying and exciting to see how far I’ve come already. Even though it is difficult, I am determined and eager to keep learning.

Another strong characteristic of mine is that I am a very honest. I pride myself in being honest to myself and everyone in my life.

What do you love to paint?

For a long time I created paintings inspired from different genres of music. Music is so powerful to me so it was natural for me to incorporate it into my paintings. I also love nature and animals so I have an animal series and I am currently working on some landscapes.

Have you always been a painter?

I haven’t always been a painter but I could always draw. It was hard for me to give up the control of a pencil and paint, but I really wanted to learn. I did paint murals for a while, starting with my first one in my daughters room 35 years ago. Since then I painted quit a few murals in homes and businesses, however, I really didn’t know how to paint properly until starting the Mastery Program.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about being an artist is being able to create something from nothing. It is very gratifying to work through a painting, give it your all, and to be satisfied with the outcome. Then, to be able to share it with everyone and have it find a home is the best! Being able to be creative and do what I love every day is a blessing!

Are you able to make a living of it?

Almost! Right now I am still working once a week from home as a graphic designer.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years?

In five years I would like to have a studio space, be involved in more community art projects and have a solid list of collectors.

What inspires you?

Music, nature and history inspires me the most. Besides painting, I love listening to music, hiking in the woods, and kayaking. I love being on the water any way I can actually! I also can’t get enough history knowledge, especially ancient history.

What is your favourite instrument?

My favorite instrument has always been the piano. I love the powerful, dramatic chords and the mellow, soothing melody. It is beauty to my ears in a song or all on its own. I also love the cello and violin.

What artists do you admire?

My favorite famous artist is Leonardo Da Vinci. I am in awe of the diverse talents that he had in art, science, engineering, music and really anything he was curious about. But I admire any artist willing to put themselves out there and work hard to be able to do what they love for a living.

How do you get in touch with your collectors?

I am starting to build an email list. For the most part I use social media.

What would your dream studio look like?

My dream studio would have a lot of windows from the floor to the ceiling with an amazing view as if I were painting outside! I really have a hard time staying indoors on beautiful days so I could have the best of two worlds.

What has been your coolest project so far?

One of my  coolest projects so far was a consignment job I had to portray a man and his two sons as lions. I had total creative freedom and he loved the final piece!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Completing the Mastery Program and taking the steps needed to become a professional artist was the best decision! I am grateful every day for what I learned and continue to learn!
